Watch Dogs 2 Should Sell ‘Very Close’ To Watch Dogs: Ubisoft

Ubisoft have high hopes from the sequel to their 2014 hit.

The original Watch Dogs game may have disappointed a whole lot of people, but it was still one of the most successful games of this generation, with over 10 million units shipped across all platforms. And with the sequel, which is due out later this year, it appears as though Ubisoft expect the same kind of performance.

Speaking in Ubisoft’s financial conference call for the previous quarter (via DualShockers), CEO Yves Guillemot discussed the positive reception that Watch Dogs 2 has received so far- the media seems to have liked it, player interest in the game is high, with most people who purchased the first game intending to purchase the sequel, and the debut trailer for the game on YouTube has 30 million views. Owing to all these factors, Ubisoft apparently believes the sequel to end up being one of the most successful games of all time.

The sentiment was also echoed by CFO Alain Martinez, who mentioned that the game has very high commercial potential, and that it should end up selling very close to what the original Watch Dogs game sold.

I am, on my part, torn on this- on one hand, Watch Dogs 2 looks like a better game, and is also launching in one of the least crowded holiday seasons in recent memory. On the other, the first game benefitted from being on six separate platforms, where Watch Dogs 2 will be on only three- and it also does have to fight against the stigma of the first game, inasmuch as there is any.

We’ll see how it ends up doing. Watch Dogs 2 will launch on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on November 15.
