Metal Gear Survive: Konami CM Responds To Negative Reception, Asks For An Open Minded Approach

"Lots of people have different expectations for their favorite titles, that's reasonable."

Metal Gear Survive

Yesterday’s announcement of Metal Gear Survive disappointed a lot of fans. The game is simply not what Metal Gear fans expected and although the negative reaction is understandable, it’s still too early to decide whether Survive will be able to live up to the series’ pedigree. There is hardly any new information about the game other than the confirmed story setting, four player co-op and a $30 price tag.

Konami USA’s community manager, Robert Allan Peer took to Twitter and has acknowledged that eventhough some people are upset with the series’ new direction, they should keep an open mind towards it. “Some people are definitely upset. Lots of people have different expectations for their favorite titles, that’s reasonable,” he stated in a Tweet. He further stated that he expects no one to love it or hate it unless they see more of the game, which in all honesty sounds reasonable. As I mentioned before, Konami haven’t revealed any gameplay footage yet so it’s very early to judge a game based on a three minute trailer.

Robert assured players that co-op will be a big focus for Survive and the game will feature Metal Gear Solid 5 type gameplay but with co-op mechanics. This certainly sounds like an amazing idea given that the gameplay mechanics in The Phantom Pain were extremely polished. Robert also claimed that the game will offer a “great experience” to the fans once the game arrives.

It will be interesting to see whether the game will offer true freedom of stealth infiltration just like in The Phantom Pain and whether it will be set in an open world or open level as seen in Ground Zeroes. Whether Survive turns out to be a great game is something that remains to be seen but for now it seems like Konami is still invested in the Metal Gear series, whether you like it or not.
