The one big problem that has been consistent for Xbox One this generation has been inferior versions of multiplatform third party games. A lot of this has to do with the Xbox One’s weaker hardware compared to the PS4, and in spite of Microsoft’s best efforts – with new software development kits and tools – the gap remains.
Dontnod Entertainment have made a name for themselves- their first game, Remember Me. They end up making waves with their episodic adventure game Life Is Strange last year. All eyes were on Dontnod to see what they would bring to us next- and as it turns out, their next game is going to be unlike anything they have done before. Vampyr is an action RPG, and it’s due out next year, and it’s unlike the adventure games that the studio has been known to make before.
GamingBolt recently had a sit down with Dontnod Entertainment’s Stéphane Beauverger, Narrative Director, and Gregory Szcuz, Art Director, and we took this opportunity to ask them some questions about the hardware that their game will be on- and we learned some rather interesting things from them. For instance, when we asked them whether the game will run at 1080p on the Xbox One, they stated that: “We are not going for any downgrade on the Xbox One.”
When asked whether they were able to overcome the hurdles presented by Xbox One’s eSRAM, they replied with the following: “We do not have a developer at hand to answer that right now about the eSRAM but I can say that we are past the major hurdles developing the game on Xbox One. Right now it’s okay.”
So there you have it- the hardware disadvantage that the Xbox One had still does exist, but it also seems like developers have mostly learned to work around it at this point. Vampyr is due out on PS4, Xbox One, and PC next year.
