Sega’s stylish celebration for Sonic‘s 25th anniversary, Sonic Mania, looks to be a great tribute to the speedy blue hedgehog’s heyday- a 2D sidescrolling platformer that looks to be a love letter to Sonic as he used to be, to the games that shot him into being a worldwide phenomenon in the first place. Most Sonic fans have been pumped for Mania ever since it was originally announced- and now, they’ll be happy that they get to see so much more of it.

The video below, courtesy of Polygon, features a full 12 minutes of gameplay footage from Sonic Mania– the footage mostly shows Green Hill Zone act 1 and Studiopolis act 1, but we get to see them better than we have yet.

Sonic Mania is due out in 2017 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Unlike with Sonic 2017, the 3D Sonic project also due next year to commemorate Sonic‘s anniversary, no NX version has been announced for this game.
