We actually haven’t seen nor heard much from Ni no Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom, the sequel to the gorgeous, but disappointing PS3 and Nintendo DS game Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, since its debut at the PlayStation Experience last year. However, in an interview with IGN Japan (via DualShockers), Level-5 President Akihiro Hino explained that development work on the game continues.

He shared that Ni no Kuni 2 actually has Level-5’s largest team working on a game yet since the original Ni no Kuni shipped on the PlayStation 3 all those years ago. He also implicitly admitted the original game’s underperformance, pointing out that the graphics of the first game probably came off as being too childish, which may have turned off potential players- this, in spite of the fact that the first game’s themes were quite mature in the end, meaning that the game couldn’t properly appeal to either demographic.

With Ni no Kuni 2, Level-5 are making sure that the themes are going to be enjoyable for adults. Directly referencing the work that Studio Ghibli did on the PS3 original, Hino said that the upcoming game should hopefully be enjoyable for both, adults and children, jut like a good Studio Ghibli movie.

Ni no Kuni is currently announced for PS4, although it has been hinted multiple times that the game will end up coming to other platforms, too.
