Hot off the success of Battlefield 1, EA have confirmed that they will not be releasing a new Battlefield game next year, shying away from the kind of annualization that almost killed Battlefield, as well as also competing franchises such as Call of Duty and Assassin’s Creed.
At the Nasdaq 35th Investor Program Conference in London, Electronic Arts Chief Financial Officer Blake Jorgensen confirmed the decision to not launch a new Battlefield. He also talked a bit about the new Battlefront game, promising that it would be ‘bigger,’ and which he confirmed would be releasing next year.
“We won’t have another Battlefield back for a couple of years, next year we’ll have Battlefront, the Star Wars game,” he said (via DualShockers). Speaking more about the game, he confirmed that EA would address all the flaws of the 2015 game. “We’re taking that criticism to heart as we’re building the next game, and we’re trying to address any of the issue that it had. There seems to be no waning in excitement around the Star Wars world. We’ve got another movie coming up obviously in a few weeks, and people are very excited about it. So we’re looking forward to bringing to the table next year a much bigger, much more exciting Battlefront for consumers.”
If EA can deliver a Battlefront game that is as full featured as Battlefront 2 was a decade ago, it would be greatly appreciated and absolutely awesome. Here’s hoping.
