One of the new announcements at The Game Awards tonight was Dauntless, the debut title from Phoenix Labs. Dauntless basically appears to be a take on Monster Hunter, featuring four ‘slayers’ working together to take down ‘behemoths,’ unique boss like creatures with their own behavior traits that make each fight and contest thrilling.
The game will have online co-op, which follows for a game of this nature. It actually looks pretty interesting (then again, I love Monster Hunter, so maybe I am not the best person to ask). The artstyle is distinct, and again, the game seems to be well thought out, it’s in a genre that’s well established to be a success, and the pedigree of the developers cannot be denied.
“Phoenix Labs is made up of the most talented and passionate game developers in the world,” said Jesse Houston, co-founder and President at Phoenix Labs. “We make games because we love to play them, and we want to share these experiences with gamers everywhere. We’ve taken inspiration from games like Dark Souls, Monster Hunter, and World of Warcraft to create a new, gripping gaming experience.”
You can check out the trailer for the game for yourself below. You can color me excited for this game, which will be free to play when it releases on PC in 2017.
