Nintendo Switch Specs Rumor: Resolution Likely From WQHD to 1080p, Could Output In 4K Too

This news should please pixel counters, I imagine.

Even though we’re just about two weeks away from Nintendo’s Switch reveal event on January 12, it doesn’t look like most people can wait that long to find more about the upcoming console-handheld hybrid that Nintendo have in the works. Which is why any time anyone with any known insider knowledge or contacts make any statement about the system, the rumor mill goes crazy abuzz.

Take, for instance, the latest remark made by The Wall Street Journal’s Takashi Mochizuki on Twitter– Mochizuki is a known business analyst with multiple contacts at Nintendo. Mochikzuki said on Twitter that according to what he was hearing from another analyst, the Switch’s resolution range was likely going to be WQHD to 1080p.

Now ordinarily, even with a source this respected, you would take what is basically third hand information here with a pinch of salt. However, it looks like, unexpectedly, known Nintendo insider Emily Rogers is corroborating this, too. She noted that the console outputs in 720p in portable mode, but goes as high as 1080p and 4K resolutions when docked- meaning that this system will probably not look hideously outdated on your TV. That’s always good.
