VR Will Come To Nintendo Switch Eventually, Nintendo President Says

But first they need to figure out how users can play VR for extended periods of time without any problem.

The possibility of Nintendo creating a VR solution of their own is one that has come up multiple times- in fact, Nintendo has already filed a patent relating to a VR headset for the Switch previously. Now, Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima has confirmed to Nikkei (via Japanese analyst Serkan Toto) that Nintendo is exploring bringing VR to the Switch.

The company is currently studying VR, Kimishima has confirmed, and will bring VR to the system once it has resolved the problem of users being able to play VR games for extended periods of time. That is currently one of the big barriers to entry that VR holds for the average user- and it is probably something that Nintendo is intimately familiar with, given that it was a question Nintendo had to tackle head on with the release of its previous handheld, the Nintendo 3DS.

Of course, just how the Switch will power a VR solution remains to be seen- it doesn’t seem to be powerful enough to be able to run VR properly, and its screen is just 720p. Maybe this is where Nintendo’s supplemental computing device patent will come in?
