Nintendo Switch Switches To Auto Sleep When In Low Battery Mode

PSP and PS Vita like sleep mode power conservation functionality, at last.

Nintendo Switch is a high end mobile device, fully capable of playing AAA games on the go- this also means that it probably eats through the battery life like nothing else. The Switch’s battery life is rated at 3-5 hours, which is honestly impressive for the amount of tech that is packed into this little thing. But what if you begin to run out of battery while playing a game?

Not to worry, says Nintendo. A lot like the PS Vita and PSP (but not the 3DS or DS), as the Switch’s battery life reaches critically low levels, the system will power itself into a super low power state. If the battery for the system is charged before it has a chance to fully run out, then the player will be able to continue playing their games from exactly where they left them off- again, like the PSP and PS Vita. Of course, it is unclear how long it will take for the Switch to discharge fully in this low power state- the PSP and Vita went on for months, and that was their true strength in this area.

It’s good to see Nintendo adapt some modern features and functionality to make their players’ lives easier all around. The Switch launches on March 3 worldwide.
