Death Stranding Will Allow Players To Band Together To Take Out A Stronger Enemy But There Is A Catch

Game explores a different kind of structure.

Hideo Kojima is working on something entirely different probably for the first time in a long time, something that isn’t attached to the Metal Gear series, and as such, it’s an exciting time for him and for his fans. He’s been talking about his upcoming Death Stranding recently- specifically, about the “strands” concept that drives the action of his newest project, and it’s some interesting stuff to say the least.

“Concerning the ‘Strands’, this is my 31st year in the games industry and I’ve been deep in action games across that time,” Kojima said in an interview with the US PlayStation Blog. In action games, generally, the player has a gun and plays against enemies in a single player environment – or they take it online and play against other players in a competitive environment. They join in together with guns – [laughs] it’s almost always with guns – to take down a stronger opponent.

However there is a catch which differentiates this mechanic from other games. “In this game you can do that but I wanted to go a little deeper beyond that with something that doesn’t focus on a weapon like a gun and that’s what has a connection to the strand concept.”

So Kojima is not yet ready to reveal what that something will be. On a related note, Hideo Kojima also talked about the online component of the game, and how it won’t follow a traditional online structure. You can read all about it through here.

Stay tuned for more updates on everything Death Stranding.
