Get Even Dev On Xbox Scorpio And PS4 Pro Comparisons: Bit Too Early To Judge On Performance Vs Quality Battle

How Sony and Microsoft's approaches to augmenting their consoles rank with developers.

15 Ways to Enhance Your Experience on PS4 and Xbox One

The Xbox One Scorpio and PlayStation 4 Pro each add and augment their respective consoles in the middle of the generation- but they approach this in radically different ways. Whereas Sony has opted for a conservative, additive approach to the existing PS4, Microsoft has gone ahead for a full overhaul of the Xbox One Scorpio.

For us as customers and gamers, seeing these two approaches is, obviously, fascinating- but how do game developers feel about this? When GamingBolt had a chance to talk to Wojciech Pazdur, Creative Director for Get Even, we posed this question to him- what approach does he prefer?

“Personally, I have always been an enthusiast of photorealism and pushing the art fidelity to the limits, so I really enjoy the opportunity to increase the visual quality of our games in the future,” he said. “But realistically speaking, it’s a bit too early to judge what will be a final benchmark for the performance versus quality battle in the future.”

He also had some words regarding the PS4 Pro’s increased memory pool, but the lack of a boost to its memory bandwidth- he feels it should not be much of an issue for Get Even, at the very least. “From my experience, I believe it’s still easier to handle the limits of memory amount than any bandwidth issues. Using 3D-scanned visuals for Get Even we’ve been really worried about the optimization issues related to memory usage limitations. But we feel that we have solved this.”

Hopefully this is not an issue that manifests itself over time as the generation proceeds. For now, it will be fascinating to see how game developers approach what are now thankfully becoming two such different and distinct machines, each with their own set of strengths and weaknesses.
