Nintendo Switch Suffering From Firmware Bug, Causes Unwanted GPU Resources To Drain

Performances will improve significantly when fixed.

The Nintendo Switch has now been out for a little over a week, but people have started noticing some flaws in the system’s firmware. During a detailed analysis of the Switch racing title Fast RMX on Digital Foundry, we learned that the system has a small issue in the current firmware.

This small issue in the firmware causes GPU resources to be drained, meaning that the performances of games themselves suffer (as is evidenced by the fact that framerate in docked mode is often significantly worse than when the Switch is out of the dock, such as in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild). However, Nintendo are planning on fixing this error soon, and once fixed, the game Fast RMX, as per Digital Foundry, will consistently maintain a full 1080p even in docked mode.

Recently, we reported about the Switch’s boost mode, and it seems like this has something to do with that. Read about that here. In our review of the Nintendo Switch, we were impressed with the platform’s ideas and its potential, but were ultimately disappointed with its current state. Read our review here.

Thanks, NeoGAF!
