Monster Hunter Double Cross And Nintendo Switch Top Sales Charts In Japan This Week

It's a reasonably good week all around.

The Nintendo Switch continues to remain at the top of sales charts this week in Japan, in spite of a heavily supply constrained situation in Japan. Roughly 50,000 units were sold in Japan last week – which seems to be about all the Switch units that were actually available in Japan – putting the Switch ahead of all other hardware in Japan for the moment.

Which is interesting, because last week also saw the release of Capcom’a Monster Hunter XX, the expansion for Monster Hunter X, released for Nintendo 3DS. The 3DS didn’t see much of a sales spike as a result, though it did reach second place with 42,000 units sold, beating out PS4- indicating that the system, and the series on it, has achieved full market saturation at this point. Monster Hunter XX itself sold 848,000 units, topping software charts- although this was definitely on the lower side for a Monster Hunter game.

Elsewhere, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild had a surprising sales hold in Japan, indicating that people who can actually get a hold of a Nintendo Switch really want to play it- results that will please Nintendo without a doubt.

It’s good to see the Japanese market thriving. With the Switch officially a success, and the PS4 having hit its stride, it will definitely be fun to see where the market heads in the months to come.
