Nothing Further Is Planned For Dark Souls Series, Says Director; Work On New Games Has Already Started

What comes next may not be like Dark Souls.

With the release of Dark Souls 3: The Ringed City, we have received the final bit of content for what was billed as the final game in the Dark Souls series. For many, this probably comes as welcome news- Dark Souls is great, but there had been far too many games in the series over the last few years. Now we can get a breather.

In an interview with Famitsu (translation by Gematsu), series creator Hidetaka Miyazaki confirmed that there are no further plans for the Dark Souls series. “As I’ve said from the beginning, there are no further developments planned at the moment, at least.” He also confirmed that work has begun on new games- and that these new games may not necessarily resemble the winning template that was established with Dark Souls.

“Since I’ve already started work on several, it would be a spoiler if I said something. One thing I can say is that our stance on game production has not changed. In making a new game, we’re not being conscious of making something that resembles Dark Souls, or on the other hand of making something that doesn’t resemble Dark Souls. Not being concerned about whether it is similar to Dark Souls, I plan on making a game that I want to make now, and that is interesting and worthwhile.”

I really hope that whatever his new game is, it is as much of a revelation as Dark Souls was. Dark Souls 3 is available on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
