Nintendo Switch Retains An Insurmountable Lead In Japan In Latest Media Create Numbers

Just the status quo being maintained.

Posted By | On 29th, Mar. 2017

The newest Media Create numbers are right out of Japan, and it looks like for the fourth week straight, the Switch has held on to its lead in the region- in fact, it looks like it has increased the lead, with almost 80,000 units sold in Japan last week, compared to the almost 50,000 units it sold the week before. This indicates that Nintendo may have been able to supply more units for Japan (the system has been famously supply constrained), right in time for the Splatoon 2 testfire.

This was more than the 40,000 units the 3DS sold last week, and more than the 30,000 units the PS4 sold. The software charts remained entirely stable, with Monster Hunter XX still in the lead, and sales of Zelda: Breath of the Wild gaining week on week (presumably the increased Switch stock has something to do with this).

On the whole, Nintendo is probably happy with how the Switch is doing for now- and the Japanese market appears to be healthier than it has been in ages, so all fans of Japanese games should be reasonably satisfied, too.
