Metro: Exodus Won’t Have An Open World But It Will Have Some of Its Elements, Developer Confirms

"Sandbox survival."

Metro: Exodus had a very strong showing at Microsoft’s E3 press conference, debuting with a stunning trailer that illustrated just how good a game can look on a console that supports true 4K and HDR, but while we’ve all been very impressed with its visual fidelity, we’re all also curious about what the game will play like.

And it looks like the game will actually have open-world elements to it. In an interview with Geoff Keighley, the game’s executive producer John Bloch confirmed that while he game won’t be completely open world, it will have open wold elements. “We like to think of it as the best of both,” Bloch said when the question of whether or not the game will be open world was posed to him. “There’s still parts of the game that have that classic Metro linear feel, and then there’s some parts of this game that have this new, larger, non-linear gameplay, which we’re calling ‘sandbox survival’.”

He continued- “It still incorporates elements of classic Metro, which are the combat, exploration and survival, and it just provides more of that to the player in each of those locations.” That definitely sounds promising. The prospect of playing a game which focuses on surviving in a harsh, open, post-apocalyptic environment is an exciting one indeed, and we’re curious to see how deep 4A Games take this aspect of the game.

Metro: Exodus is due out sometime in 2018 for the PS4, Xbox One family, and PC. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for continued coverage.
