Call of Duty: World War 2’s War Mode Will Emphasize Teamwork And Strategy Between Players

That sounds like a departure from the series so far.

Call of Duty is finally trying something new with its gameplay this year, with Sledgehammer Games’ Call of duty: World War 2 touting the new War Mode as its chief innovation when it comes to multiplayer. Speaking to Glixel at E3 2017, Sledgehammer’s Michael Condrey spoke about this new mode at length, pointing out that the aim for it is that it promotes true teamwork and strategy.

“For us, we’ve all seen the evolution of Call of Duty. Part of it has been the Modern series making you a Tier 1 soldier, and then with us with Advanced Warfare we made you a Tier 1 soldier of the future, and the outcome was that it all became about you as a super soldier,” he said. “Multiplayer became about your individual success. Lone wolf stuff. It was about how you could compete and dominate. Even in the objective-based games that are supposed to drive teamwork. At the end of the day Call of Duty became about “me” – my score streaks, my KD, my performance, me being on the final kill cam. WWII is the complete opposite. It’s the common man, common woman thrust into situations that really require teamwork and your squad to come together. The idea behind bringing this linear war mode to life was to reinforce true teamwork and strategy.”

It sounds interesting- as if Sledgehammer heard the criticisms directed at the franchise, looked at some of the stuff that competing shooters like Battlefield were doing successfully, and actually reacted taking all of this into account. One can only hope that War Mode is everything that Sledgehammer wants and expects it to be- it sounds like a nice change of pace from the usual Call of Duty multiplayer.
