Kingdom Hearts 3’s release is actually within our sights now. It was recently confirmed that the game will be coming out in 2018, which is more concrete a release date than we’ve ever had for the game, so it makes sense that information on the game is coming in thick and fast now. Game director Tetsuya Nomura recently did an interview with Dengeki, and he confirmed a number of new details on the game.

The interviewer brought up how Sora, Donald, Goofy, Buzz and Woody are all five seen battling together in a scene from the recent trailer, and asked if there will be five-team parties in the game. Nomura confirmed that, depending on what world you’re in in the game, you can fight with parties of “4 or more people”, as well as additional “guest” characters. “Teaming up with others is also possible,” Nomura continued, before saying, “please wait for the next report regarding the party system.”

In the same interview, Nomura was also asked about revisiting worlds in Kingdom Hearts III. He mentioned that while he liked that mechanic in Kingdom Hearts II, the upcoming sequel will have “a different flow” to that aspect of the gameplay. “I personally liked having to revisit the worlds twice but Kingdom Hearts 3 has a different flow,” he stated.

The game releases in 2018 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
