Assassin’s Creed Origins’ Quality Really Benefitted From The Extra Year Off, Says Ubisoft

"This extra year really allowed us to take the time to deliver on that high quality."

Ubisoft got the hint when Assassin’s Creed Syndicate underperformed in 2015 after Assassin’s Creed Unity‘s dreadful showing in 2014, and decided to have the Assassin’s Creed franchise go on hiatus. This ended up affording Assassin’s Creed Origins an extra year in development- something that has apparently been very helpful in the game looking as exciting as it does.

“When we started the game three-and-a-half years ago, we wanted it to be global, to be full, so this is why we aim for a fully seamless entire country now. We touched a bit on that with Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, this sense of massive scale and total freedom, and we wanted to bring that on land, for the very first time, with an entire country. This extra year really allowed us to take the time to deliver on that high quality,” Game Director Jean Guesdon said in an interview in the September issue of PC Gamer (#308).

Personally, I can see that. While there are parts of the game that arguably still look janky, there is no question that Origins looks to be the most exciting Assassin’s Creed has been in years. Hopefully, the game ends up revitalizing the series after its slump, much like Assassin’s Creed II and Black Flag once did, all those years ago. Assassin’s Creed Origins launches on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC on October 27.
