Code Vein is Bandai Namco’s new  project that is being touted to be a souls-like game although it features an anime aesthetic and deals with the world of vampires. It is the in-depth combat system then that has drawn comparisons to the Dark Souls games.

Bandai Namco has now given out new details regarding the game’s combat system and how the different weapons in the game work.

First, we get details about Jack Rutherford who will be voiced by Junichi Suwabe, and Eva Roux who will be voiced by Saori Hayami. They are both revenants and while they may be in conflict with the protagonist, certain instances may see them working together with the players.

The different weapons introduced include:

  • One-handed sword: Allows for fast-paced strikes. What it lacks for in power it makes up for with its speed.
  • Two-handed sword: This weapon has a wide reach, but is also slower as a result. It can have an impact on multiple enemies and deals high damage.
  • Bayonet: The bayonet allows for fast-paced combat at short range and also allows for ranged combat which allows players to keep enemies at bay.
  • Halberd: The halberd has a wide range owing to its large handle, and also deals huge damage. It can also have a kickback effect.
  • Great Hammer: This weapon has a short range but a high attack power and downing ability.

Each of the weapons usually have three kinds of attacks, typically consisting of a weak attack, strong attack and a special attack.

Furthermore, we get more information about the Queen’s Knight who wields a giant sword and shield. The Queen’s Knight will keep up a fast-paced attack strategy that will prevent the player from resorting to using a counter-attack. The Queen’s Knight will also have multiple phases/modes of attacks that will activate once it loses a certain amount of health.

Code Vein is out for the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One worldwide in early 2018.
