Nintendo Switch Stock Shortages Are ‘Not Satisfying’, Says Nintendo Exec

With Mario launching, I don't see this getting better.

The Nintendo Switch has been a success beyond anyone’s wildest guesses or estimation, with it topping sales charts worldwide routinely, and consistently being out of stock due to chronic shortages. Those shortages are not something Nintendo is happy about, and speaking to The Verge, Nintendo of America boss Reggie Fils-Aime expressed his displeasure with Nintendo’s hilarious inability to meet demand.

“Whenever we launch a system, we place very high expectations on ourselves. I wish we would have more hardware. Our inability to meet demand is not something that is satisfying in any way, shape, or form. And we’re working hard to satisfy as much demand as possible. I expect that our chief executive Mr. Kimishima will comment on this,” he said.

As for when Kimishima might talk about this, Nintendo’s latest quarterly report and investor meeting is due next week; that is when we can expect updated sales numbers for the Nintendo Switch, as well as for its games. I imagine we will learn more about how the console has managed to sell since June 30 (it had sold through 4.7 million units worldwide at that point); its sales are probably approaching 6.5-7 million worldwide by now.

Hopefully, with the Holidays approaching, Nintendo will be able to address the shortages, especially in the wake of the impending launch of Super Mario Odyssey
