We Won’t Maintain Parity Between Xbox One X And PS4 Pro Versions – Surviving Mars Dev

"We'll ship the best game we can on each platform."

Xbox One X

The Xbox One X is finally here- and it lives up to its ‘most powerful console ever’ billing for sure. Microsoft’s super powered Xbox is definitely a marvel of hardware engineering- now it just needs the games that will tap into its resources and leverage them properly, if it is to truly shine.

Thankfully, it seems like developers are actually excited to exploit the One X for all that is is worth- fears that it might be held back due to parity considerations with the original Xbox One, or even the PS4 Pro, may prove to be unfounded in the long run, if that is so.

Take Haemimont Games, the developers of Surviving Mars. Speaking to GamingBolt in an exclusive interview, they confirmed that they will not hold the Xbox One X version back on account of the PS4 Pro, and that they will fully leverage everything that each system has to offer.

We’re under no pressure to maintain parity, and we’ll ship the best game we can on each platform,” they said. For the PS4 Pro, that means they will target 30fps, with a higher resolution than the base PS4- but they aren’t willing to get more specific beyond that.

“We are targeting 30 fps, at a higher resolution, but still cannot commit to a specific number at this point,” they said, also confirming that for the Xbox One X, they are, right now, unable to commit to any specifics.

Still, the sentiment that each system should be fully utilized for what it offers, rather than having one held back on account of the other, is encouraging- given that Microsoft lacks too many first party games and studios to showcase the power of their system, the buck falls to third parties to show us what the Xbox One X is truly capable of. Thankfully, it sounds like they’re more than willing to do so.

Stay tuned for our full interview on Surviving Mars in the coming days.
