Star Wars: Battlefront II’s controversial microtransactions policies and its pay-to-win model has angered a great number of people. As such, in response to this controversy, EA have temporarily removed any microtransactions from the game, claiming that they’ll be reintroduced at a later date, once they have decided what changes to make to make it less aggravating.
However, EA was was asked by The Washington Post if the pay-to-win model had been scrapped for good or if it would indeed make a return in the future, a spokesperson was unable to give a concrete answer, instead saying that beyond what DICE’s general manager Oskar Gabrielson has already confirmed (regarding the temporary suspension of microtransactions in the game), there is nothing else to be said at the moment.
“With regard to yesterday’s announcement on pulling the in-game purchases for launch, we do not have anything further to share at the moment beyond Oskar’s post,” the spokesperson said.
A Lucasfilm spokesman added that “Star Wars has always been about the fans. Whether it’s ‘Battlefront’ or any other Star Wars experience, they come first. That’s why we support EA’s decision to temporarily remove in-game payments to address fan concerns.”
So yeah, they basically said nothing new, instead choosing to rephrase what they’ve already said countless times recently. Either way, the controversy regarding Battlefront II’s microtransactions has grown quite exponentially, so hopefully it will be enough to bring DICE and EA to their senses and lead them to make some much needed changes to their monetization model.
Star Wars: Battlefront II is out now for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Despite some significant flaws, it’s actually a pretty good game- you can read our review here. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for continued coverage.
