HDMI 2.1 Specifications Finalized, Supports Up To 10K Resolution

The HDMI 2.1 can support up to 10K resolution but it will be a while before devices catch up with these specifications.

The HDMI Forum- the governing body that creates specifications for HDMI cables had announced back in January details of HDMI 2.1 cable. Now these specifications have been finalized and will be released to companies. It will also be backwards compatible with all previous specifications.

The HDMI 2.1 will support “8K60Hz and 4K120Hz for immersive viewing and smooth fast-action detail and resolutions up to 10K are also supported for commercial AV, and industrial and specialty usages.” However, it’ll probably be a while before gaming technology  catches up to this. This update then is one that is clearly meant for the future TVs and it’ll probably be a while before HDMI 2.1 can be used up to its full potential.

An interesting new feature is the Quick Frame Transport which reportedly reduces lag and allows for a smoother gameplay. You can read more about the specification features of the HDMI 2.1 here. You can see for yourself the full list of upgrades made available with the new version in the chart below.
