Super Mario Odyssey New Video Shows How You Can Beat The Game Without Jumping Even Once

On a sheer technicality, in any case.

Super Mario Odyssey

Super Mario Odyssey is an incredible game, one that gives Mario his most versatile move set ever. So versatile is that move set, in fact, that apparently you can leverage it to beat the game without even jumping once- on a sheer technicality, anyway.

As this new video by VG Myths demonstrates, there are some caveats to this- the game has an in-game counter for your total jumps, which is only triggered by manual, non-cutscene jumps initiated by the player when on the ground (and for some reason, triggered by the player initiating an NPC conversation). Everything else is fair game- jumps coming out of a cutscene, mid-air jumps, Cappy launches, all of that.

Leveraging this restricted move set, and a whole lot of other work-arounds, such as a trick to talk to NPCs without triggering the counter, and co-op mode to bypass some forced jumps, they were able to beat Mario Odyssey without a single jump- at least, on a sheer technicality.

Super Mario Odyssey is available exclusively on the Nintendo Switch.
