Xbox One X

The Xbox One X is definitely a far more powerful machine than any other console on the market- but contrary to what Microsoft may have you believe, that doesn’t mean that native 4K is guaranteed for every game on the console. Modern games and computing are complex, and native 4K visuals rendered in real time are contingent on a whole host of factors.

This is what Søren Lundgaard, CEO & Co-founder Ghost Ship Games, the folks working on Deep Rock Galactic, told GamingBolt in an exclusive interview. “[Native 4K rendering] depends on the game, target framerate, and the quality. Even high end PCs can have problems running games in 4k at Ultra or even lower settings.”

According to Lundgaard, however, utilizing the additional power that the Xbox One X presents over the Xbox One and One S shouldn’t be difficult, in spite of Microsoft’s mandate to have all Xbox games target the base Xbox One as a minimum.

“Since the Xbox One X biggest strength is in the GPU, its “relatively” easy to scale up resolution and other effects to take advantage of it, so its not difficult to take advantage of the extra horsepower,” Lundgaard said.

Which does make sense- on the other hand, the question of just how good a game made from the ground up exclusively for the Xbox One X’s architecture, and designed to plumb it to its depths, would be continues to nag at me. For now, it’s a shame we won’t get an answer to that question.
