Kirby: Star Allies and Nintendo Switch Top Japan’s Media Create Charts

Meanwhile, PS4 sales continue to drop.

Monster Hunter World’s hegemony atop the Japanese software charts has finally been broken, as the game slid from the first place position it has held on to since launch (except for last week, when it was narrowly second place to Fist of the North Star) to sixth place. Instead, the top spot was taken by the newly launched Kirby: Star Allies, which sold over 220,000 copies for one of the series’ best debuts so far.

It was followed by Splatoon 2 in second place, with the PS4 and Switch versions of Attack on Titan 2 taking the next two spots, and Fist of the North Star taking fifth place. Meanwhile, Switch evergreens Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe continued to do well as well.

All of this led to the Switch taking the top spot in the hardware charts again, with over 54,000 units sold. The PS4’s sales continue to curiously decline (I have to imagine there are some stock constraints at this point), with less than 23,000 units sold.

How much longer the Switch can hold on to the top spot, and how well Kirby continues to do in the coming weeks, will be interesting to see for sure.
