Nintendo Switch Has Many Unannounced Big Games, Sales Will Continue To Be Strong in 2018–GameStop

Pokemon for this year, then?

Compared to the insanity of last year, when Nintendo was releasing one big game every month—we got Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, ARMS, Splatoon 2, Mario+Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, Pokken Tournament DX, Fire Emblem Warriors, Super Mario Odyssey, and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 in one year—this year has been relatively quieter for the Switch so far. While we got Bayonetta and Dragon Quest Builders, as well as Kirby: Star Allies, it can’t be denied that things have quited down compared to 2017.

According to game retailer GameStop, however, this is only temporary. Apparently, there are multiple unannounced games for the Switch that should end up giving it a major 2018, with the system selling well. Speaking to investors at an earnings call, GameStop CEO Michael Mauler revealed that Nintendo still has many aces up its sleeve that it has not yet announced.

“I think this year when we look at the slate of titles, many of which haven’t been announced yet, this year looks also very, very strong,” he said. “So I think, at least, for 2018, we’ll continue to see the strong software slate drive additional installed base on the hardware and increase attach rate. We don’t have really visibility for 2019 yet, but for 2018 it should play out that way.”

The next few months already look to be picking up for the Switch—Dark Souls, Hyrule Warriors, Donkey Kong, Captain Toad, Mario Tennis, Octopath Traveler, and, of course, Smash Bros., are all announced for the console in the coming months. There is also the case of Pokemon and Fire Emblem, both of which are scheduled to hit the Switch this year, but haven’t been revealed yet. Nintendo’s E3 show this year will be very interesting to see, that’s for sure.
