4K/60fps Support In PS5 And Next Xbox Is A Must – HIVE: Altenum Wars Dev

"This will be an essential requirement for the bigger game studios on the next-gen."

The fact of the matter is, we are entering the last leg of the PS4 and Xbox One’s life cycles- even if there are still 2-3 years left before their successors are released, it is clear that we are in the home stretch now regardless. As developers prepare for the generational leap from this round of consoles to the next, what exactly are their expectations? What are they asking for from the PS5 and Xbox Two?

Speaking to GamingBolt, David Rodriguez, CEO of Catness Game Studios and Programmer of HIVE: Altenum Wars, noted that he expects the next PlayStation and Xbox to be more of the same, but more powerful and well equipped.

“I’m not sure, actually. I don’t expect big changes but more computational capacity to get more realistic graphics in very huge scenarios. I would love see huge sandbox games with an accurate scale to the real cities and villages and the space between them,” he said.

That said, he did point out that hitting 4K and 60fps would be a must for the “next gen” machines. “I think this will be a must for the next-gen. We are trying to achieve that with our game on PS4 Pro. So if we can do that now, this will be an essential requirement for the bigger game studios on the next-gen.”

Honestly, I think that graphical fidelity has plateaued. While games always can, and will continue to, look progressively better, I think we are at the stage where that is no longer the point- the point is better games. Games that can handle more complex worlds, better systemic interactions, better AI for enemies, that sort of thing. Going forward, a game like Breath of the Wild or The Phantom Pain, but one that looks like Horizon or God of War, would be something that players would presumably want more. At least, I can confidently state it would be something I would want more.
