From Software Suggests It Will Return to Dark Souls Eventually

Dark Souls will return, From Software suggests.

From Software managed to hit worldwide fame with the success of its Dark Souls games, but then they put out a lot of them in a very short period of time- between 2011 and 2016, we got Dark Souls, Dark Souls 2, Scholar of the First Sin, Dark Souls 3, and Bloodborne, all of which were of a similar style. It must have started to wear thin on them as creators, because leading up to the launch of Dark Souls 3, From Software had started to say that it would be the last game in the franchise, and the last game in that style that they would make for a while.

But it looks like they don’t intend on abandoning the genre and series they birthed outright. Speaking in an interview with IGN, Hidetaka Miyazaki, President of From Software, confirmed that the company is not “moving away” from the Souls series, but just “taking a break”. He added further that the company has started to experiment with Unreal Engine (their upcoming VR game is built on Unreal Engine 4, as a matter of fact), suggesting that the next Dark Souls, should it ever happen, may be built in that engine.

That will happen when it happens, I suppose. For now, there are three mainline Dark Souls games, a Demon’s Souls game, as well as Bloodborne, for fans of From’s games to check out- Dark Souls even got a remaster release earlier this year, with a release on Switch coming in the next few months.
