Nintendo’s Switch is going to receive its next major firmware update very soon- update 6.0.0. With a full version number change like that, you would assume that there are many major changes to the system incoming. You would be wrong, as before.
Okay, that’s not exactly accurate- there are, in fact, a lot of substantial changes made to the system on the backend, mostly to tighten up the security, and kill the piracy exploits people have managed to uncover so far, but in terms of user facing features, there doesn’t appear to be a whole lot here.
New changes (via Reddit) include new profile pictures (which are all Toad), save data backup, Nintendo Switch Online subscription support, enhanced telemetry, and new controller icons, including, interestingly enough, the NES and SNES controllers- could official support for those be incoming?
But no, no folders, or themes, or messaging. At this point, given the emphasis placed on the OS’s simplicity, it’s unclear if we will ever get those things. The new firmware update for the Switch should be out soon- given it was leaked from the official servers, it should happen within the next week or so.
