Yesterday, Nintendo announced that they would be holding a 35 minute-long Nintendo Direct to talk about upcoming 3DS and Switch games today (6 September). However, in the wake of a powerful earthquake in Hakkaido, Japan, they have now announced that the Direct has now been postponed, and that a new date and time for the Direct will be provided “in the near future”.

NHK reports that the earthquake measured 7 on the Japanese seismic scale, as per the Meterological Agency, which is the highest possible measurement on the scale. The earthquake has resulted in seven casualties and several injuries and missing people at the time of writing this report, while transportation services and aviation have also been halted, and schools have been shut down as well.

There have also been several power outages, but thankfully, as The Guardian reports, there is no tsunami threat. Above all else, our thoughts and prayers are with all those who’ve been affected.
