Red Dead Redemption 2 Has Almost 200 Species of Wildlife

5 million more, and it could have been a Pokemon game.

Red Dead Redemption 2

Rockstar Games are the masters of crafting vast, intricate worlds with amazing sense of place and atmosphere, and so much detail that they feel like real, living environments. And so it will be with the upcoming Red Dead Redemption 2, as well. Speaking on Twitter, Rockstar promised that the game’s world will be host to about 200 species of wildlife.

It’s not just a number, either— Rockstar promises each of them will have their own unique behaviours and patterns, and they will all react to the environment and to stimuli in their own distinct way. Given that many players will probably not even keep track of the number of species in the game, or bother with any beyond the few more common ones, this is definitely a case of Rockstar going above and beyond with the game, in their pursuit of attention to detail, and perfection. I wonder if there will be any player who tries to catalog all of them.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is out on October 26 for PS4 and Xbox One (though it may eventually end up getting a release on PC, too).
