Soulcalibur 6 Guide: How To Do A Reversal Edge And Unlock Inferno

Tips and tricks regarding the most unique content and mechanics in Soul Calibur 6

SoulCalibur 6 is now out, and it is absolutely incredible, especially for long time fans of the series. If you haven’t gotten your hands on it yet, I can’t recommend that you rectify that quickly enough. If you do, well, you’re probably wondering about just how deep the rabbit hole goes. That’s what we’re here to help you with. This specific guide teaches you how to unlock the only unlockable character in the game at the present moment, as well as how to pull of the game’s signature Reversal Edge mechanic.

UNLOCKING INFERNO

Inferno is ridiculously overpowered. He is so overpowered that he is outright banned from online play, and you can only play with him offline (say, against friends). Basically, even the developers realize he’s broken in terms of game balance.

But that’s what makes him so much fun to play with. If you want to give him a go yourself, unlocking him is easy: just complete Chapter 19 of the Story Mode. As of right now, this is the only way to unlock him. So, time to sit back and enjoy the game’s campaign, I guess.

REVERSAL EDGE

Reversal Edge is a brand new mechanic introduced into this game, as a bid to make it friendlier for newcomers. It works, too—you can use it at any time, without any meter or any cooldown, and you initiate a cool slow motion window where you and your opponent both must select one of eight moves to try and gain an advantage over the other.

Initiating a Reversal Edge is easy: R1 on PS4, RB on Xbox One. You can also press the heavy attack plus guard button to initiate it.

Once you do initiate it, your character enters a Guard stance. At this point, you and your opponent both need to pick one of eight moves to decide the outcome.

  • Guard: Will block all attacks( only Vertical Slash is the exception)
  • Guard Impact: Can counter all attacks. It also gives you a frame advantage
  • Side Step: Bad against Horizontal Attack and Kick. This gains you a frame advantage over Guard Impact.
  • Crouch: Loses to kick and vertical attack. Advantageous if used against Guard Impact. Outright wins against a Horizontal Attack.
  • Back Step: Disadvantageous against Horizontal Attack and Vertical Attack. Wins against Kick
  • Horizontal Attack: Will always lose to Vertical Attacks, Guard Impact, and Crouch, but on the flip side, it beats Kick, Back Step and Side Step
  • Kick:  It loses to Horizontal Attack, Guard Impact, and Back Step. Beats Vertical Attack, Side Step, and Crouch.
  • Vertical Attack: It loses against Guard Impact, Side Step, and Kick. Beats Guard, Horizontal Attack and Back Step.
