Super Mario Party

You might not have been paying much attention to it, owing to its more casual bent, but Super Mario Party appears to have been a pretty big and successful launch for Nintendo. Launching in early October, the game has already managed to cross 1.5 million units sold worldwide, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa announced in Nintendo’s briefing to investors.

Given the Switch’s unique nature, emphasizing more casual play as well as local multiplayer on the go and spontaneously, as well as the distinct hardware which is used in interesting ways in Super Mario Party, this shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. Even more so, the game, while having its own raft of issues, is a return to form for the series from the poorer instalments we got in the Wii and Wii U eras—so it makes sense players have responded well to it.

Owing to its status as a fun party game, it is likely to continue selling well going forward, especially in the upcoming Holiday season. Super Mario Party is available now exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
