Amazon Suspends 3DS Sales in the US, Resumes Them Again

Posted By | On 26th, Jul. 2011

In what threatened to be the most damaging development to the beleaguered 3DS’s prospects in the market, online retailer Amazon, the largest online retailer in the world, stopped selling the cosmo black models of Nintendo’s 3DS handheld system yesterday. Whereas the 3DS was still listed on the site, and it was still possible to buy it from third party retailers hosted on Amazon, Amazon itself suspended all sales of the handheld, citing issues with either consumer complaints, shipping of the product or quality and build of the product with respect to how it’s described.

The issue was obviously blown out of proportion, as people speculated if other retailers would follow suit, and whether the 3DS’s 3D was the cause, or the slightly suspect hinge quality. Unfortunately, the truth appears to have been rather more boring than what was speculated, and all 3DS doomsday callers will have to wait for some other incident to proclaim death upon the handheld.

Nintendo has finally spoken on the matter, stating that “An internal Amazon.com shipping issue triggered a brief hold on orders of Nintendo 3DS systems while the situation was reviewed, as is common in such matters. Amazon.com resolved the issue, and Nintendo 3DS orders have resumed.

“There are no issues with Nintendo 3DS inventory or quality. For additional information about this incident, please contact Amazon.com.”

Amazon has not responded to any queries as of this time. We’ll keep you updated on this issue as more information follows.
