Nintendo Switch Reportedly Sold 11 Million Units In Q4 2018; Likely To Hit 20 Million Forecast, As Per Analysts

Apparently the final three months of 2018 were absolutely bonkers for Nintendo.

The final quarter of 2018 was apparently very lucrative for Nintendo as far as hardware sales are concerned. The Switch reportedly sold approximately 11 million units worldwide from October to December, reports Wall Street Journal reporter Takashi Mochizuki on Twitter. As per analysts, this is putting them on track to achieve the target of 20 million units sold within the financial year that Nintendo have set for themselves and continued to stand by.

In the first half of the financial year up until October, the Switch had sold 5.1 million units, but the releases of heavy hitting exclusives such as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Pokemon Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Eevee! doubtless provided a significant boost to its sales. Accounting for sales in Q4 2018 (Q3 of the financial year), the Switch would now stand at over 16 million units sold in the FY, which puts it within 4 million units of hitting its 20 million target, which, according to Mochizuki, is something analysts are becoming increasingly confident it will manage to do.

Analysts also predict that thanks to strong demand of not only the hardware, but also the software (which continues to perform historically well on the Switch), Nintendo are also bound to increase their FY earnings guidance.

While the 11 million figure isn’t something Nintendo has officially confirmed as of yet, we can probably expect to hear about official numbers from them soon, when they release their Q3 FY 2018-19 earnings results at the end of this month. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more updates.
