Apex Legends

Apex Legends, the new battle royale sensation, has done extraordinarily well for itself. But in the end, it’s going to have trouble toppling the genre leader Fortnite unless it can become as pervasive as that game is. One way that game has become so all-encompassing is by being on literally every platform imaginable—it’s on PS4, Xbox One, PC, iOS, Android, and Nintendo Switch.

Apex Legends, on the other hand, is only on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Versions for Switch and mobile have been discussed previously, but we haven’t gotten any movement on that front yet. Now, speaking to Wired, Drew McCoy, the Project Lead at Respawn Entertainment, confirmed that Respawn has heard the cries for a Switch version, but that they won’t commit to anything just yet.

“If Switch was coming, we would tell you, and we would blast it across the world. We are hearing all the Switch players who say they want the game. I can’t make any promises right now. We have a lot of things that we’re working on, so stay tuned for anything in the future. But currently we don’t have anything to announce,” he said, which makes sense—even if a Switch port of the hit game is on the way, it’s not like McCoy would talk about it before an official announcement in an interview.

That said, unlike Fortnite, which runs on the extremely scalable Unreal Engine 4, getting Apex Legends to run on the Switch might be a bit of an issue, given that the game runs on the older Source engine, which doesn’t have an official Switch port yet.
