Cheaper Switch Model Out By June, “Modest” Upgrade Later This Year – Report

A new report suggests new Switch hardware variations are going to be out sooner than expected.

Reports about new hardware versions for the Nintendo Switch have been a dime a dozen of late. As reports go, Nintendo has two new Switch models in the pipeline- a smaller, cheaper model to replace their dying 3DS, and a more powerful hardware upgrade. In the wake of Nintendo announcing their distribution deal with Tencent, which will see them entering the Chinese market – a deal that has seen the company’s stocks soar – a new report has emerged on Bloomberg that suggests that the Japanese manufacturer wants to keep this momentum going. One of the ways it’s going to do that is by introducing new hardware variations of the Switch to drive up sales.

Anonymous sources have told Bloomberg that a cheaper model of the Switch is imminent, and will be out as soon as by the end of June. Meanwhile, Nintendo also has a more powerful Switch in the pipeline- though that’s being touted as “a modest upgrade” rather than a significant one, and that, too, will be out by the end of the year. A more powerful version of the Switch beyond that, though, is allegedly not part of Nintendo’s plans, contrary to recent reports.

While new models of the Switch have been in the rumour mill for months now, what those new models will be and what exactly they will bring with them by way of upgrades or changes is something that we keep hearing new things about with every new report. For now, it’s hard to be sure about any of it – maybe other than the fact that at the very least there will be new Switch hardware down the line. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more updates as they come our way.
