No Plans To Announce New Switch Models At E3 2019, Says Nintendo President

We won't be seeing any new hardware revisions for the Switch at Nintendo's E3 presentation in June.

New models of the Nintendo Switch have long been in the rumour mill, and multiple reports have suggested that a cheaper, smaller Switch model would be out imminently, with the most recent report citing a release by the end of this June itself. However, it doesn’t seem like that’s going to happen after all.

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa says (via Bloomberg) that though Nintendo is currently working on new hardware (which he also pointed out is something they’re always doing), we shouldn’t nonetheless expect an announcement for a new Switch variant at E3 this year.

“As a general rule, we’re always working on new hardware and we will announce it when we are able to sell it,” Furukawa said. “But we have no plans to announce that at this year’s E3 in June.”

Recently, Nintendo released its latest quarterly financial results, and confirmed that the Nintendo Switch has sold over 34.7 million units– but failed to meet the projections of 17 million units sold for the financial year (which themselves had been slashed down from initial projections of 20 million sales). Though new hardware releases and a cheaper Switch variant would help drive up sales, it seems like that isn’t something that’s going to happen imminently.

In related news, Nintendo also announced updates sales figures for its Switch titles, including the likes of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Pokemon Let’s Go, and many others. Read more about that through here.
