There have been rumours for a while that FromSoftware is working on a new game, which has been written by George R.R. Martin, the author of A Song of Ice and Fire (who also served as producer and writer – until season 5 – on its television show adaptation Game of Thrones). Now, Gematsu is confirming that a source close to FromSoftware has told them that the game is indeed real, while GamesRadar reports that it’s called Great Rune.

Perhaps what lends even more credence to these rumours is George R.R. Martin himself. In his recent blog post, he confirmed that he has “consulted on a video game out of Japan”.

Additionally, as per the rumours, the game is set in the backdrop of Norse mythology, and will be an open world title, with players exploring the world on horseback. Players will be invading kingdoms and stealing powers from rulers and fighting for various kingdoms.

Great Rune is supposedly not too far away from being officially revealed either. The reports suggest that the game will be formally unveiled at Microsoft’s E3 press conference next month.

For now, it’s best not to take these rumours as confirmation of any sort, since they are, after all, rumours, but it’ll be interesting to see how it pans out if it is indeed confirmed. We should find out soon enough either way- Microsoft’s E3 press event takes place on June 9th. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more updates.
