The next installment in the old school throwback RPG series, Wasteland 3, is coming soon. It will have all the style and humor fans have come to love. The series is a throwback, of sorts, to the original non-Bethesda Fallout games (though technically the Wasteland IP is older). And with the third entry, it’s bringing something new to the genre: multiplayer and character swapping.

Sitting with Wccftech, inXile Entertainment founder Brian Fargo and Game Director Tim Campbell talked at length about the game, as well as the franchise that they said they’d be happy working on for years to come. When it came to the new multiplayer features, Campbell said it was heavily co-op based and was all about swapping back and forth to characters and giving multiple players various options to progress adjacent to their friends.

“That feature is one they’re actually we’re really excited about,” said Campbell. “It’s a first for us with the Wasteland franchise, and it’s something that I think is going to offer a new way to play the game. So we support two players co-op. Players can swap characters back and forth, split their party, progress through the game together. Depending on how they want to play, they can save and split up and progress the rest of the way through single player and potentially then join back up later on. It’s kind of a very flexible way to play the game that will let people play single player and play multiplayer and kind of switch between the two when they want.”

Definitely seems like an interesting take on the franchise. Wasteland 3 is slated to release Q4 2019 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. To keep up with all news on the game, recent and upcoming, you can head here.
