Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order Plays Very Similar To Sekiro, Says Developer

There probably won't be the same call for easy modes with Jedi, though. Probably.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order got its big unveiling at this year’s E3, and while it wasn’t bad, it seemed to do a poor job overall of really demoing the gameplay. Not long after the initial gameplay, a lot of publications came out saying the game was more Metroid-inspired than expected, and the combat was compared to Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Now someone else is comparing it to FromSoftware’s action game: Fallen Order‘s own developer.

In the latest issue of EDGE (Issue 335), the game’s Lead Combat Designer Jason de Heras talked about the combat, and said it was “very similar” to Sekiro. If you’re not familiar with that game, it’s heavily based on timing strikes in parries and blocks.

I thought it was pretty badass, and a little comforting to know that you could make this type of game without a stamina bar,” said de Heras. “They let you attack, they let you roll, they do all this for free – and then the AI will tell you if you’re doing the correct thing. It just confirmed to us that you don’t have to limit everything the player does; let them have a little more agency, and then let the AI give them a slap on the wrist or a punch in the face. It was a positive thing for us to know there was a game that was similar to ours. Very similar.”

Sekiro also reignited the debate of difficulty due to its brutal learning curve. I doubt this game will follow in those footsteps considering the broad source material, but I guess you never know. Either way, get those fingers ready to start tapping for those blocks and parries. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will release on November 15th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
