Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will have, among other modern military things, a wrist watch. This in-game device will tell the actual time based on your platform. It’s a nice little addition but the developer is taking things a step further by also incorporating a Tamagotchi-style pet in it.
Extremely popular in the 1990s, Tamagotchi were essentially virtual pets that needed to be cared for. That meant feeding them regularly, playing with them and so on as they grew up. The Tamagunchi, on the other hand, grows based on one’s multiplayer and Spec Ops performance.
As art director Joel Emslie told Game Informer,“This little thing on your wrist, every time you get a string of kills, it goes, ‘Ya-ta!’ and it makes a little noise, then you look at it, and it evolved out of an egg. Tamagunchis are fed by the player’s performance in multiplayer. It’s just this little active wristwatch thing. If you don’t take care of your Tamagunchi, it will rot and die.”
It sounds like yet another cosmetic unlock that players could earn in-game (and via microtransactions), which is clever, if a little zany. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be releasing on October 25th for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Infinity Ward has promised that campaign footage will be showcased soon, and also confirmed that dedicated servers are coming back.
