Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order’s Corpse Runs Have Shades of Shadow of Mordor’s Nemesis System

It's like a cross between Bloodborne's Blood Echoes and Shadow of Mordor's gloating enemies.

There’s been a ton of new information on the upcoming Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order thanks to a recent round of previews and hands-on impressions at various media outlets. Of the many, many details that have emerged, the one that’s got people the most excited is how closely it resembles the structure and design of a Souslike game- but one particular aspect of that design, it seems, has another interesting wrinkle to it.

In a preview by AusGamers, something interesting came to light about Fallen Order’s corpse runs. By and large, these function a lot like they did in Bloodborne– if you die, you lose all the unused XP you had on you at that point, and to get it back, you have to go kill the enemy that killed you, who will now be glowing. However, AusGamers points out that the enemy that originally killed you and now holds your XP will often gloat about having bested you in combat, which is an aspect in particular that has serious shades of Shadow of Mordor’s Nemesis System.

It’s a small detail, but a neat touch nonetheless, and a great way to bring two different elements together to create something new. Though then again, if the enemy that killed you was a beast or a monster that can’t speak, they couldn’t very well gloat, could they? So it remains to be seen how common this will be in the game.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order recently wrapped up development, and will be out for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC on November 15.
