Most well-known and beloved Star Wars stories have one thing in common with each other- they all have a droid character who’s, well, actually a character. Not just a machine- from R2-D2 in the original trilogy, to BB-8 in the sequel trilogy, to even Chopper in Star Wars Rebels.

With Respawn having built their upcoming Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order as an authentic Star Wars story, that is something that they have in their story as well, with Cal’s bipedal droid, BD-1. In a new behind-the-scenes video shared by EA, we get a brief look at how the developers conceptualized and then created BD-1, from the role he plays in the story, to how emotive he is, to how he expresses himself, and much more. It’s an interesting behind-the-scenes look, and one that Star Wars fans will surely appreciate- take a look below.

From the game’s progression mechanics, to its lack of a fast travel system, to its multiple difficulty options, we’ve learned a great deal of new stuff about Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order in recent days. Read about it all through the links. The game recently went gold, and will be launching for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on November 15.
