With the advent of the Nintendo Switch Lite, its clear that Nintendo is now fully committing to the integration of its handheld and home console divisions, which means that the 3DS chapter may now officially be closed (or closing, at any rate). Recently, Nintendo’s quarterly financial earnings revealed that the Switch has sold a total of over 41 million units to date, and that the Switch Lite sold nearly 2 million in just 10 days.

During their investors call, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa also commented that in order to made the Switch Lite more appealing to prospective 3DS buyers, the company would be looking to make more 3DS titles and franchises available on the Switch (of course, the upcoming Pokemon Sword and Shield should provide a huge boost as well).

Now, there’s some interesting information on what those games might end up being. Speaking on the matter on Kinda Funny Games Daily (which you can view below), former Game Informer editor Imran Khan said that Nintendo had recently cancelled several 3DS-related projects, one of which was another Fire Emblem remake, and that these are probably the games that Furukawa is referring to.

Nintendo going all-in on the Switch as both, a handheld and a home console has been long overdue, and integrating libraries of both kinds of games on one single console would make a lot of sense for them. The Switch Lite has clearly been designed as the system to take over from the 3DS – now over eight years old – and refocusing their efforts to bolster the Switch’s library to appeal to both crowds seems like a logical move for Nintendo.
