Nintendo To Release New Switch Model Mid-2020 – Rumour

Please let it be a Switch Pro.

UPDATE: The Digitimes report also claims (via industry analyst Dr. Serkan Toto on Twitter) that the new Nintendo Switch model will have a magnesium alloy body instead of a plastic one, and that it will also boast a better CPU.

Original story follows:

There were multiple rumours and reports several months back that Nintendo had two Switch revisions in the works- one that would be a more powerful version of the console, and one that would be a cheaper, pared back variant. That came half-true when Nintendo released the Switch Lite- before promptly making it clear that no new Switch variants would be out in the near future.

However, it seems that that is actually going to happen- at least if a recent report is to be believed. According to a report published by Digitimes, Nintendo is looking to begin volume production on a new Switch model by the end of 2020’s first quarter (which ends March 31), before launching the new console SKU in mid-2020. This is, the report says, as per “sources from the related upstream supply chain.”

It is, of course, best to take this with a grain of salt, as is the case with any unverified and unconfirmed report, but given how many times a Switch Pro (or whatever Nintendo ends up calling it) has been brought up in leaks and rumours over time, it sort of seems like an inevitability- or maybe that’s just confirmation bias. That said, with the PS5 and the Xbox Series X releasing later this year, it makes sense that Nintendo will want a more powerful version of the Switch on the market.

If it does end up happening, let’s just hope it isn’t yet another Switch model to suffer from Joy-Con drift issues.
