When it was rolled out at the end of 2018, no one had any idea just how much of a disruption to the PC ecosystem the Epic Games Store would end up being. It’s use of third party exclusives was something unprecedented at the time and caused large scale controversy, especially for games such as Shenmue 3 and The Outer Wilds that had been crowdfunded originally with Steam copies promised. Well, we know that practice will continue into 2020, and it also seems the store was a success despite that.

In a press release, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney said the store had already passed 100 million users, a milestone they reached at a quick pace. Though, it isn’t clear if those 100 million users are those who only created an account after it officially became a storefront or if it also includes those who signed up for the launcher when it was dedicated to Fortnite.

Sweeney also said that third party games were a success there, pulling in $251 million profit from the storefront. That number seems a tad on the low side considering there were some huge titles released as exclusives to the storefront, but he said this was actually 60% higher than the company’s initial forecast.

It seems as if the storefront has definitely made a pretty big impact in the short time it’s been around. Will the momentum continue in 2020?
